Robert George Colby passed away peacefully at home Thursday, May 1, 2014. He would have been 90 on his birthday on May 24.
The Guest Book is expired.
Bob was born in Concord in 1924, the son of Joseph G. and Ethel (Folsom) Colby. He lived in Boscawen, working at the family farm and sawmill. On December 24, 1952 he married the love of his life, Virginia Little of Saugus, Mass. Every Christmas Eve thereafter was a celebration of their life together.
He lived for a while in Saugus, Mass. and worked as a park ranger at the Saugus Ironworks National Park. When Bob returned to New Hampshire, he and Virginia lived in East Concord, but he worked at the family farm and Colby Lumber Company. He was an orchardist and beekeeper at his apple orchard on High Street in Boscawen.
Bob was a volunteer fireman for the MuchIDo Fire Department in Boscawen for many years. He was a charter member and past president of the Boscawen Historical Society. Although he was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Concord, he also supported the Boscawen Congregational Church. Bob and his wife Ginny rarely missed a chance to participate in any of the Boscawen school or town events.
Everyone who knew Bob would say he was the kindest man they ever met, but it was the twinkle in his eye and his laughter that we will miss the most.
Bob is predeceased by his wife, Virginia Colby; and four of his siblings, Charles Colby of Franklin, John Colby of Franklin, Charlotte Barry of Franklin, and Mary Little of Webster.
He is survived by his older brother, James F. Colby of Boscawen; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 6 p.m.
