Resident of Lincoln
Bruce Barklow of Lincoln CA passed away peacefully on March 3, 2013. Bruce was born on November 14, 1927 in LaVerne CA to Ovid and Olive (Deardorf) Barklow. Bruce served in the Army Air Corp. He was stationed at Lackland Air Base in Texas where he was an air-traffic controller. That's where he met the love of his life (and future wife) Martha Abraham. Marty and Bruce were married on October 16, 1948 in Austin Texas. Their union was blessed with 4 children, Teri (John) Brophy, David (Kay) Barklow, Laura Krech, Jim (Robyn) Barklow. Bruce spent most of his life working in fire apparatus, doing everything from building fire trucks, selling and repairing those vehicles and fighting fires whenever he was "lucky" enough to be in the area. Many fire departments around the country knew they could count on Bruce to get them what they needed. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Marty who died in 2008 and son-in-law Elmer Krech. Bruce is survived by his children; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister Marlene (Eldon) Swanson. Up until Bruce moved away from Concord, he was actively involved with St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a lay minister, usher, and worked with the organizations of St. Vincent de Paul Knights of Columbus. Bruce was always willing to help whether it was cooking or serving at pancake breakfasts, Mother's Day brunches, St. Patrick's Day dinners or finding lodging for displaced travelers. Bruce will be missed by his family and friends including his extended family of care providers at Lincoln Residence Care Home where he spent his final days. Bruce and Marty are now reunited in eternity.
