Clyde (Gene) Bruce passed away quietly in Sparks, Nv. while holding the hand of his devoted wife Shirley of 61 years on. Gene was born in his parents Oswald & Irene Bruce's home in central Oklahoma on May 7th 1932 during the height of the depression. The Family came out to California to work in the shipyards of Richmond in 1942. Gene attended Richmond High where he met his sweetheart Shirley Chappius. Riding his Harley and hanging out with Shirley; and fellow riders Rodrick and Jerome were his favorite things to do until he enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1951. Gene married Shirley in 1952 and was discharged in 1954. Gene then moved to Martinez and was hired by the Martinez Fire Dept. in 1955. He served the citizens of Martinez for the next 27yrs. Gene was an avid boater and water skier. He was also one of the founding members of the Martinez Boat Club. Gene loved road trips and camping and took his family on many vacations throughout the Western U.S. Upon his retirement he devoted his time to RV across the rest of the U.S. and Canada. After leaving the open road he and Shirley settled in Shingletown in 1994. There they had a home built and lived many happy years until moving to Sparks in 2011. Gene is survived by his Wife Shirley, son Rod and his family; wife Deborah, son Drake and wife Shannon, son Dylan and wife Jessica and their children Jake and Melody, daughter Savanah and fiance Ryan Slover. Son Terry and his family; wife Elaine, daughter Whitley and her daughter Isabella and daughter Sofie Sawyer. Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of life Wed.12/18 at 3:00pm in the Martinez Event Center 524 Main St. next to La Tapatia Restaurant.
