Emma Lou Blodgett Obituary
Emma Lou (Thompson) Blodgett Apr. 7, 1936 - Jul. 18, 2013 70 Year resident of Lafayette/Walnut Creek Emma Lou Blodgett passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side. Born to Larry and Dorothy Thompson in El Centro, CA. She spent her formative years growing up in Walnut Creek active in "Rainbow Girls" a branch of The Eastern Star and was the first graduating class of Las Lomas High School in 1955. She was involved in student government, various clubs, and served as a majorette. "Emma", as her classmates knew her, was "friends with everyone" and truly was to all she met throughout her life. After high school, she went onto cosmetology school, an accomplishment she was very proud of, and always kept her license current, renewing it just this year. Emma Lou met her husband George, on a blind date set up by a mutual family friend on a water skiing adventure. In the fall of 1957 they married. Emma Lou and George built their home in Lafayette, up on the hill with beautiful views which she loved. She loved her family & nothing brought her greater pleasure than to have her family together at celebrations and holidays. In earlier years, she and George traveled to places throughout Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, and The Bahamas, but her favorite trips were to Reno and Las Vegas for the slots. Later in her life she enjoyed her annual trips to Palm Desert and weekly trips to BINGO. She will most fondly be remembered by her welcoming smile, giving nature and creativity. She was preceded by her parents; Dorothy and Larry Thompson, and sister Beverly Hanawalt. She leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years; George, Daughter; Shari Klenow (Bernie), Son; Larry Blodgett (Karen), Grandchildren; Emily Klenow (fianc‚ Clayton Palomino), Spencer Blodgett, and Olivia Blodgett, and Niece; Donna Silva (Tom), as well as many extended family and close friends. A celebration of her life is planned at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lafayette CA on 8/17/13 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either Las Lomas High School, Rotary International, or Hospice of the East Bay.
