Resident of Pittsburg
Gene left us on September 24th, 2013, to be with his beloved wife Yoshiko. His whole family was able to say good bye and tell him how much they loved him.
He was born in Fresno, Ca., grew up in Selma Ca. (after the war), and later was a resident of Pittsburg, Ca. for about 53 years. He is survived by his two sons Robert and his wife Jeanette, Jack and his wife Mary, grandchildren Michael and Lisa, Mark and Tracy, and Michelle and James, great grandchildren Alexandra, Crystal, and Austin, great great-grandsons Vincent and Jacoby, and niece Jean LaSpina. He also has many friends who will miss him.
On July 14, 1942 Gene and his family were evacuated to the Poston, Arizona internment camp 2 in the desert and departed on June 4, 1944. Gene served in the 5th Calvary Regiment in the Korean War where he was injured Oct. 5, 1951 and received a purple heart. Gene retired from the City of Concord Public Works/Parks department after 34 years of service as a Lead Gardener. He married his beloved Yoshiko in 1966 and they raised two sons together.
A memorial will be held on October 11th 10:30 am at Oakmont Memorial Park at 2099 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette, Ca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 (925-887-5678).
