Born to Leah Belle & Kermit Blodgett in Berkeley, CA. He spent his youth growing up in the Reliez Valley area of Lafayette attending the old Pleasant Hill Elementary, Acalanes High, & DVC. He graduated from San Francisco State with a degree in Business.
George met the love of his life, Emma Lou Thompson "Lou", just before he graduated from SF State & they married in the fall of 1957. George built their home in Lafayette high on a hill on land his parents gave the newlyweds. George was handy his entire life, able to tackle just about any home improvement project. In addition to being handy around the house, he was an avid car nut, having built a Hotrod from a pile of parts & owned a number of sports cars at various times throughout his life.
George owned Blodgett's Linoleum in Lafayette for many years when he took over from his father in 1973. While running the family business he was active with the World Floor Covering Assoc., SF Floor Covering Club, the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, and the Lafayette Rotary Club, which he served as President for the club in 1990-91. He helped with his son's Boy Scout Troop, and was proud of becoming a Free Mason. He retired in 1996 handing over the reins to his Son & Daughter-in-law who bought the business, but always remained connected to what was going on at "The Shop".
In retirement, he had many projects and interests to keep him busy. Golf was a passion of his for many years, traveling with Lou, working on his hot rod, and helping his kids with various projects. He enjoyed staying connected with his college fraternity brothers of "Delta Gamma Tau" as well as his buddies from his "Racing Days".
George loved his family & nothing brought him more pleasure than to have them together for celebrations & holidays. He will be fondly remembered by many as; Artist, Builder, Outdoorsman, World traveler, & Leader. Most importantly he will be remembered as; Son, Husband, Father, Poppa, and Friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Leah belle & Kermit Blodgett, Sister Joan, as well as his loving wife of 55 years, just 10 months ago.
