Harold Child Jr. Obituary
Harold M. Child Jr. Sept. 20, 1933 - Feb. 3, 2013 Resident of Brentwood for 45 years Harold died peacefully on Feb. 3rd at his home with his family by his side. He was born and raised in Selma, CA and graduated from Selma High School in 1951. Harold served in the Army Branch of the U.S. Armed Forces in the 41st Armored Division from 1954-1956 as a SP4. His time in the army was spent in Sandhofer, Germany with the special intelligence unit and received an Honorable Discharge in 1962. After the Army, he graduated from Fresno State University with a BA in Social Studies in 1959. He taught for 3 years at Hayward Junior High and then transferred to Liberty Union High School in 1962 teaching History, Special Education, English and Social Studies. Harold retired from teaching in 1986 and opened a parent and teacher supply store named "Gold Star" in Antioch, CA, until 2005. He loved his store because he could visit with the teachers and parents conversing and advising about education. However, most of all, he enjoyed the children who loved exploring and playing in the store. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Josefina "Pina" Child, daughters Ana Luisa Child (Greg), Nadine Child, sister Lilace (Bob) Turmon, two nephews, two grand-nieces, two grand-nephews and four great-grand nieces. Harold was buried with military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA on Feb 11, 2013.
