Herbert Goll Resident of Pleasant Hill We are sad to report that Herbert William Goll of Pleasant Hill, California, died on Monday Dec. 3, 2012 in Walnut Creek from complications of heart disease. Herb was 80 years old, two days shy of his 81st birthday, and a longtime resident of Contra Costa Country. Herb moved to the Bay Area from Evanston, Illinois after his marriage to his first wife, the late Anita Fairfax Yeager Goll, a native of Lafayette, Calif. Following Anita's death from ovarian cancer, Herb married Maurita Zimmer of Pleasant Hill. Herb was born in Chicago in 1931, the son of Herbert August Goll and Catherine Ryan Goll. A gifted artist and athlete with a passion for skiing and travel, Herb attended the Art Institute of Chicago and Northwestern University on scholarships, before graduating from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After serving as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, Herb's business career spanned the metals, financial services and real estate industries. Herb is survived by his devoted and loving family: wife Maurita Zimmer Goll; children, Thomas Ryan Goll and his wife Susan Meinbress Goll of Portland, Oregon; Sally Goll Beatty and her husband William Henry Beatty of New York City; four grandchildren: Rebecca Curry Goll, Julia Elizabeth Goll, Michelle Fairfax Goll and Anne Fairfax Beatty; and four step-daughters: Lynn Zimmer, Nancy Zimmer Burns, Susan Zimmer and Diane Zimmer Honick. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and times on Sunday, January 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at Scott's Restaurant in Walnut Creek. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Herb's name is encouraged to support the Bay Area nonprofit of their choice.
