Jack Bernard Nelson Obituary
Jack Bernard Nelson Resident of El Cerrito Jack, born December 12, 1923, in Berkeley, CA., the only child of Oscar (Guy) and Helen Nelson. He died peacefully on November 26, 2013. He was a proud third-generation Californian and resident of El Cerrito for over 60 years. Jack was a graduate of Oakland Technical High School. He was an excellent auto mechanic, having worked in his father's garage from a young age. He was a builder and contractor and was the self-employed owner of Farnel Construction for many years. He took great pride in the excellence and quality of his work. Jack served in the Coast Guard in Hawaii as a jet engine mechanic just after WWll. He was an active member of the Albany/El Cerrito Kiwanis Club, Richmond Yacht Club, and a very proud 32nd degree Mason. His wife of 57 years and mother of his two children, Edith Matilda Nelson (nee Nelson) died in 2002. Jack is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Nelson of Point Richmond, CA., his son, Kenneth Nelson and his wife Carol of Burbank, CA., grandsons Joseph and Christopher and a great granddaughter, Janessa. He also leaves behind the beloved companion of his later years, Marion Kent of Point Richmond. Throughout his life Jack enjoyed boating and tinkering with all things mechanical. As per his request, there will be no service and his ashes will be scattered in the San Francisco Bay, long a favorite sailing spot. A reception will follow at the Richmond Yacht Club on Saturday, January 18th from 2 until 4.
