Joe Yee, 83, died peacefully in his sleep at his Danville home on 01/13/13. He was the only son of four children born to Wing Quen "Henry" & Lin Que Chin "Anna" Yee of Santa Barbara, CA.
A 1952 UC Santa Barbara College math/physics graduate, Joe joined the US Naval Reserve ROC program & a founding chapter of Beta Sigma Tau, a national interracial & interdenominational fraternity.
Lt. Yee served onboard the destroyer escort USS Carpenter (DDE-825) during the Korean War from 1952-1954 & received the Republic of Korea Korean War Service medal in 2000. Fellow "Pirates" recognized Joe's departure from the "crew" at this year's USS Carpenter's Shipmates' Association's Two-Bell Ceremony.
He taught math in San Francisco after the war & met Jane Mark, a Hayward HS teacher. They married in 1957 & moved their family from Hayward to Danville, CA in 1968. In 1990, Joe retired after a 33-year career at San Lorenzo HS.
His wife of 47-1/2 years, Jane, both parents, & sister, Jessie Tin, predeceased him.
Joe is survived by daughter, Kathryn Engel (Craig); son, Alan Yee; son, David Yee (Christina); grandsons, Michael & Christopher Yee; sisters, Ella Quan & Mary Young, & numerous cousins, nieces, & nephews.
