Resident of Moraga
John was born in Elkhart, Indiana, to immigrant Greek parents James and Alexandra. He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Mary and Dorothy, and survived by his older brother Charles of South Bend, Indiana.
John attended Purdue University until World War II interrupted. After serving, John received a Bachelors in Business Finance from Indiana University. He moved to California and began a 45-year career as a stock broker for Morgan Stanley in Oakland. John was a role model for others, showing by example that a person could succeed and thrive by sticking to one's values and principles.
On New Years Eve 1964 John met, married, and spent the next 49 years with an emigrant from Mississippi and the love of his life, Charlyne Aycock Demos. He was a selfless father to his grateful sons David (Jennifer) and Chris (Catherine) and a loving 'Papou' to three adoring grandchildren, Elias, Alexandra and Magdalena.
He loved family gatherings, church fellowship, travel, bridge and monthly luncheons with his Cooking Too friends. His other love was golf, where he became known for walking the links and carrying his own bag into his later years.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Orinda on Monday, April 7 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, Orinda, or Kaiser Hospice, Martinez.
