Michael Nunez Obituary
Michael G. Nunez 1924-2013 World War II Veteran Michael G. Nunez fought his last battle August 11, 2013 to Acute Leukemia. Michael was born to Juana and Lorenzo Nunez October 23, 1924 in El Paso, Texas. Growing up in Richmond, CA. with his parents and 10 siblings. He attended Richmond High School receiving awards in Baseball and Football. He served in the United States Army in the 901st Field Artillery Battalion. He fought in the Central Europe Battle, Rhineland Battle, AND Ardennes Battle /Battle of the Bulge, GO 40 WD 45 Bronze Star Campaigns. He was a sharp shooter and was decorated with good conduct and battle medals. He also liberated concentration camps in Germany with the US Forces. On return of service he was employed at the Cannery in Richmond, CA where he met the love of his life Marguerite. They Married in 1950 - with 63 years of Marriage, together they loved and raised three children. Mike Coached Bronco and Pony League Baseball in the 1960's. He was employed at Stauffer Chemical Company in Richmond. He was a hard Laborer, enjoyed playing baseball for the Company, and in 1989 was awarded for never missing a day of work during his 40 years of employment. Residing in Historical Atchison Village, Michael was a long time charter member residing 56 years in the community he helped in building to house the defense workers from the Kaiser Shipyards. The village is part of the Rosie the Riveter Historical Park. Recently Michael was honored for his honest and faithful service to the United States of America with a Veterans honor flight to Washington DC with other World War II Veterans where he told jokes and enjoyed visiting monuments dedicated to Veterans. Michael was a believer in Christ, unselfish, courageous, a strong proud Veteran, who was generous, kind hearted, and a man who lived with integrity. Mikes favorite things to do in his retirement were watching his Great Grandsons Jacob and Cain play little league baseball, feeding the birds at the Marina, road trips with his daughter and wife, telling stories of War, going to USC football games, watching John Wayne movies, and enjoying time with his family. On Sunday August 11th Michael kissed the love of his life one final time before he went home with the Lord. Michael took his last breath at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving Wife Marguerite, Children; Mark Nunez, Diana Nunez, and Janice Garcia. Five Grandchildren; Steven Garcia, Jason Garcia, Kelley Garcia, Stacy Lompa, Tracey Contreras, And Thirteen Great Grandchildren. He was "The Godfather" to us all. Michael did good, he never boast on tangible things for he stored his treasures in Heaven. Michael lived a very full life and saw the World. But his greatest accomplishment that he was most proud of was being a loving and faithful Husband of 63 years to his Wife Marguerite and forever proud of his Family. On Wednesday at 10AM Mass will be held at St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church1845 Church Lane San Pablo, CA. Following - Burial with Military Honors at 11Am at St. Josephs Cemetery with Reception to Celebrate the Life Of Michael Nunez.
