Molly Coleen Widner Obituary
Molly Coleen Widner
Nov 15, 1996 ~ Aug 12, 2014
Martinez
Our beloved Molly flew into the arms of her Daddy, with her adoring family and friends surrounding her bedside. She valiantly fought liver cancer till the last moment, never giving up. She touched many lives and was a very old soul for her young age.
On July 27th, at a celebration of her life she was awarded her Alhambra High School degree, an honorary degree from Purdue University and a degree in Veterinary Medicine also from Purdue. She was a straight A student who was looking forward to being a vet until she got sick and her focus turned to Pediatric Oncology, she was trying to figure out how to do both. During her battle of 23 months, she mentored many other children with cancer, helping them through the journey. She would have made an incredible pediatric oncologist.
Molly had many passions, everyone knows her love of animals especially cows. She also loved softball playing many years with the Martinez league and then moving over to the Pleasant Hill recreation league where she was an all-star second baseman. Although she always loved fashion it became her passion when she became ill. Many a store will be suffering a severe decline because Molly gained her angel wings.
Molly was preceded in death by her beloved father, Tom. She is survived by her mother, Kathy, her brother Christopher, her beloved nephew Teo who was the light of her life and her Nanny – Peggy Corrigan and her Grandmother – Barbara Widner. She was also blessed with many aunts, uncles, and cousins
She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. She was bright, beautiful bald or not, loving, caring, passionate, spirited and most of all courageous. She inspired so many people during her long battle.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 4:00~8:00 P.M. with Vigil at 7:00 P.M. at St. Catherine of Siena, 604 Mellus St., Martinez, CA 94553. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions be made payable to "Purdue Foundation" with "IMO Molly Widner" in the memo to support The Molly Widner Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine. Contributions can be mailed to Purdue Foundation, 403 West Wood Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907
