Richard Anderson Hickman Obituary
Richard Anderson Hickman
October 16, 1924 - May 1, 2014
Resident of Walnut Creek
Richard (Dick) A. Hickman passed away peacefully after a long illness on May 1, 2014. Dick was born on October 16, 1924, to George and Luella Hickman in Albany, California. He attended college at UC Berkeley and, after serving in WWII as a fighter pilot for the US Army Air Corp, returned to graduate from Cal and earn a law degree from Hastings College of Law in SF. He worked for many years as a distinguished workers' compensation judge for the State of California. One of Dick's greatest joys was singing Barbershop music, which he did, singing baritone, for over 50 years as a member of both a northern California chorus and quartet. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, flying, traveling, staying in shape, and watching football games, esp when Cal beat Stanford. Dick is survived by his wife Shirley, son Kevin, daughter Kathryn (Lee), son-in-law Michael, grandson Cole, brother George, sister Joan Bybee, brother-in-law and wife Earl & Alice Hayes, and 10 nieces & nephews. Dick's friendly & witty personality, and his generous and caring spirit will be missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday May 31, 2014, in the Fireside Room at Rossmoor, 1001 Golden Rain Rd, Walnut Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be made to the of Northern California and Northern Nevada, 1060 La Avenida St, Mountain View, CA 94042 or www.alz.org
