Robert McKay Obituary
Robert Kenneth McKay Resident of Concord, CA Robert, born August 9, 1921 on a farm near Morris, MN. to Kenneth and Roberta McKay. Bob passed away on January 13, 2013 at the age of 91. He was the loving husband of Helen McKay for 62 years. Bob was an Eagle Scout who attended the Universities of Minnesota and North Dakota, then became a highly skilled B-29 Navigator in WW II. Bob met Helen at a dance in Benson, MN, married her in 1949 and took her to Juneau, Alaska, where he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Alaska Native Service. The first 3 years of marriage were spent in Juneau, where their first two children were born. They moved to Edmonds, WA (Seattle Area) in 1953, where their third and fourth children were born. Bob worked for Chevron for 20 years in Seattle; in 1971 he was transferred to Concord, CA, where they made their home for 40 years. Bob is survived by four children: Matthew of Lexington, KY; Mary Kay McKay of Everett, WA; Ken (Dianne) McKay of Bonita, CA; and Patti Plastiras (Chris) of Incline Village, NV; five grandchildren: Monty & Bob Stone, Amber & Michelle Plastiras, Ian McKay; two great-granddaughters, Annabelle & Olivia Stone; sister Mary (Jim) Randall of Scottsdale, AZ; and many dear cousins, nephews, and nieces. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen; and his parents Kenneth and Roberta McKay. Bob had a multitude of friends with whom he kept in constant touch, and looked forward to the annual reunions of his WW II buddies. Bob and Helen enjoyed many years of traveling, square dancing, golfing, gambling, and visiting family. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Walnut Creek Elks Lodge #1811, 1475 Creekside Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94596 at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013.
