Roy was born to Fredrick and Magdalena Hedtke in Bongards, Minnesota on January 12, 1920. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Roy was in General Patton's 3rd Army and was in one the first units in Germany. He was severely wounded and captured by the German army who operated on him twice saving his life. Roy spent 38 years working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Dairy division retiring as the Regional Supervisor for the Western United States. The great love of his life was his wife of 66 years Betty. Roy's great faith carried him through after her passing and now they are together again.
Roy is survived by his children, Carol Francis of Bolingbrook, IL., Steven Hedtke and his wife Shelley of Chapel Hill NC., Tom Hedtke and his wife Amy of Fair Oaks, Ca.:
Grandchildren Shannon Hedtke and her husband Ian of Melbourne Australia, Kent Hedtke and his wife Lisa of Richardson, TX., Nathan Hedtke and his wife Jessica of Tokyo, Japan, and Lauren and Brooke Hedtke of Fair Oaks, Ca. Roy had 5 great grandchildren.
Friends and Family are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 15, at 1 pm. at Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church at 49 Knox Drive, Lafayette, Ca.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kurth Memorial Garden at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, Kurth Memorial Garden.
