Shirley Van Katwyk passed away on Tuesday August 5, 2014 after battling breast cancer. She was a devoted and loving wife for over 62 years and a sweet, always positive, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Shirley was born in Carson City, Nevada. She attended grammar and high school in San Luis Obispo. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1945. She attended Glendale College and Brigham Young University where she studied fine arts. She was a homemaker who became an accomplished pastel portrait artist. She sold and gave away her beautiful portraits to family and dear friends along her journey through life. She had a deep love for her family, her faith, art, cooking, music and anything good.
In 1951, Shirley met the love of her life, Charles Van Katwyk, married September 25, 1952. Together they have lived throughout the world. Shirley had the most amazingly positive attitude wherever they made their home. Her outlook was to look and see the good in everything and everybody. Shirley was a devote faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many church callings and served four missions for the Church.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charley; devoted and loving Children; Brenda Lynn (Mike) Dunn Antioch, Kevin (Rica) Vacaville, Kirk (Kristina) Tracy, California. Grandchildren; Cammie (Andy) Yorgason, Autumn (Mike) Childers, Rustin (Allison) Van Katwyk, Brian (Elena), Craig (Keeley), Emily Buccellato, Vanessa, Mason, Logan, Tanner, Nathan, Peter, Seth, Rachel Van Katwyk, Casey (Kimberly), Kyle (Erin) Dunn. 13 Great Grandchildren. Her generous loving positive spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6-8:30pm at Oak Park Hills Mortuary, 3111 N Main St. Walnut Creek. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Northgate First Ward Chapel, 100 Northgate Road, Walnut Creek. Interment: August 18, 2014 11:30am – Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon. Express condolences at
