Virgil (Pat) Patton|
May 30, 1928 ~ Jul. 16, 2014
Resident of Hercules
Pat passed peacefully in his sleep after a year of declining health. Born in Denver, Colorado, he was predeceased by his father, Virgil Patton, Sr., his mother, Lydia (Yost) Patton and his brother, Dennis. Pat is survived by his beloved wife, Jo-Ann, his son, Dennis and granddaughter, Misty Patton, as well as his sister, Patricia (Patton) Surber.
He was the much loved "bonus dad" to Brian Steel, Susan Steel, Lauren Steel-Bouey and Charles (Rita) Steel, and grandchildren Erica Bouey(Robert) Taack, Jordan Bouey, Madison and Marla Steel.
A graduate of Sparks High School, Pat attended University of Nevada Reno before joining the Navy in 1946. After his discharge, Pat began working on railroads. Retired in 1990 from Santa Fe Trails Terminal Services, he maintained a life-long interest in railroads, both models and "the real thing". He was a founding member of a local retired railroaders luncheon group.
A talented watercolorist and woodworker, Pat leaves behind many cherished examples of his expertise.
Pat enjoyed contributing to his community by participating in the Hercules Historical Society and as a prior long-time member of the Caprice Homeowners Board of Directors. Until his illness, he was always the "go-to guy" when any of his neighbors needed advice or repairs.
Pat was a friend to all who knew him and he will be deeply missed. His greatest love was his family and his joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
A date and time to celebrate Pat's life will be shared at a later date.
