Wayne Erven passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 20, 2014.
Wayne was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to San Leandro, CA in 1948. He graduated from Bishop O' Dowd High School in 1956 and joined the Navy. He retired after 20 years with the Navy and went to work for Alameda County at the North County Jail in Oakland, CA, as a Building Maintenance Engineer.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine; and 5 grown children: Nanci Erven-Collins (Gary) of Castro Valley, Karen Mullenax of Pleasanton, Joy Erven of Walnut Creek, James Erven (Janice) of Chico and Wendy Erven (Scott) of Omaha, Nebraska.

He was great grandfather to Charlotte Rae Merrill of Pleasanton.
Wayne was active in the reunion committees for both the USS Intrepid and the USS Hancock Associations. He loved to attend the yearly reunions and served as both president and member association chairman to these groups. He was happiest when on board a cruise ship with his beloved wife or puttering in his garden. Cherished by many, he will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the "Wounded Warriors Project."
