Bill Young passed away peacefully on June 13th after a valiant fight against cancer, he was surrounded by family. Bill grew up in northern Michigan and was the consummate fisherman throughout his life, from fly fishing to deep sea, he had a deep love of the sport. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Fish Biology and was a Spartan fan through and through. Always the competitor, Bill enjoyed playing racquetball and could be seen most days playing with his buddies at The Big C Athletic Club; he also competed in a few National Singles championships in which he medaled. Bill enjoyed skiing, movies, wine tasting, the 49ers, traveling (to Mexico, Hawaii, yearly Canadian fishing trips and even completing the 4 day trek to Machu Picchu with his daughter in 2008) and was a season ticket holder to the Oakland A's for decades. Bill worked for 31 years as a project specialist at Brown & Caldwell, consulting on the start-up and management of many water and wastewater treatment plants, making many life long friendships over the years.
He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Young of Cheboygan, MI and is survived by Sondra (Cool), his wife of 39 years, daughter Melissa Young of Austin TX and father Bill Young, sister Joanne Bur (husband Dale), niece Jodi Barrette, nephew Jeff Bur, in-laws Betty and Gerald Cool, all of Cheboygan, MI, as well as many friends and extended family members throughout the country.
A special thank you to all of the dear friends and family members who supported and encouraged him on this journey. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
