Wynston Edwin Erickson Obituary
Wynston Edwin Erickson Aug. 4, 1921 - Nov. 10, 2013 Resident of Rodeo On Nov. 10, 2013, Wynston Edwin Erickson rounded third and scored the final run in his lifelong contest. He was born in Milaca, MN in 1921, the first-born of Dr. Edwin O (DDS) and Minnie Erickson. Wynston was told later that he was named after Winston Churchill. When he asked about the difference in the spelling, his mom replied, "Mr. Churchill spelled it wrong." Wynston grew up in Northfield, MN, where he graduated from Northfield High in 1939.The year 1942 was huge for him. He joined the Navy on February 13 and married his long-time sweetheart, Marion Gladys Roach, on June 21. They shared 50+ years together before Marion's passing in 2001. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during the war. His last assignments had him working on a Net Tender in San Francisco Bay. They were responsible for closing the sub net across the Golden Gate. The employment opportunities and temperate weather kept Wynston and Marion in the San Francisco Bay at the conclusion of his military duty. He found employment at Chevron Oil for 40 years and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. The only activity that lasted longer than that was his lifelong love of baseball. He has been a season ticket holder with the Oakland A's since 1987 and is a fixture in Section 123, row 5, seat 14. He would not have it any other way. Like many other members of the Greatest Generation, he loved family and was a productive parent. He was the father of seven: Ann (Richard) Dorman of Antioch, Meredith Erickson of Abita Springs, LA, Wynston (Katie) Erickson of Rodeo, Edwin O. Erickson III of Clarksville, AK, Heidi (Dan) Martin of Hercules, Michelle Erickson of Berkeley and her twin sister Denise (Jose) Fuentes of San Francisco. The grandfather of seven, David (Patte) Bonwell of Silverdale, WA, Edwin W. James (Lori) and Robert Bonwell of Antioch. Peter (Tiffany) Martin of Vacaville, Elizabeth Martin of Humboldt, Edwin O (Kym) Erickson IV of Coal Hill, AK. The great-grandfather of 12, Natalie and Noah Bonwell of Silverdale, WA, Connor and Danielle Bonwell of Mesa, AZ, Alyssa, Jamie and Megan Bonwell, Jordan Bonwell, all from Antioch, Kirra and Sabriena Martin of Vacaville and Edwin O. Erickson V. and Ellyce Olivia Erickson of Coal Hill, AK.
