PORT WASHINGTON: Roger David Law, 73, 10318 State Route 36, SW, Port Washington, passed away late Saturday afternoon, November 16, in the Cleveland Clinic.

Roger was born in Cambridge on May 28, 1940, the son of the late Willard D. Law and the late Helen Jeannette Thomas Law. He was a member of the Cambridge High School class of 1958. Roger then enlisted in the Navy as a seaman and served for over 28 years. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1987. Roger served on several carriers during his career and also was a captain on several PT Boats during the Vietnam War. He also served during the Dessert Storm campaign. While in the Navy, Roger was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Virginia Beach. He returned to civilian life in Tuscarawas County and owned and operated his own business, Home Handyman's Service, for several years. He also owned real estate and rental properties. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing video war games. He also taught Hunter Safety Courses in this area, as he was an instructor for many years. He also enjoyed taking care of and spending time with his family, which he considered his most important position.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Gene Law, Virginia Beach; a granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Speicher, Newcomerstown; a great-grandson, Brandon Lee Speicher, Newcomerstown; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Hayhurst, Brandon, Florida.

Roger is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Maxine Watson Law, whom he married on April 4, 1959, as he was beginning his career in the Navy. He also leaves a son and his wife, David Vincent and Patricia R. Law, Newcomerstown; a daughter, Victoria Lynn Pope, also of Newcomerstown; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Paula Jeanne Hayhurst, Brandon, Florida.

Funeral services to celebrate Roger's life will be held on Thursday, November 21, 1:00 PM, in the Ourant Funeral Home. Minister Tim Hatfield will conduct the services. Burial will follow at the North Salem Cemetery, Guernsey County, where the Newcomerstown Veterans' Honor Guard will conduct military grave side services. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday evening, 5 until 7 PM, and one hour before the funeral (Noon until 1 PM) on Thursday.
