Ronald Bowen

COSHOCTON: Ronald Bowen, age 77, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at OSU James Cancer Hospital East after a short illness. Ron was born in Grand Blanc, MI on April 19, 1936, to the late Raymond and Ethel Bowen. He graduated from the University of Michigan, School of Engineering with a degree in Metallurgy. While in school, he was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity. After graduating, Ron stayed at the University of Michigan for an additional year doing research. On October 1, 1960, he married Patricia Nieman, who survives.

In January of 1960, Ron went to work for the former Universal Cyclops in Pittsburgh, which later became AK Steel. On June 30, 2000, Ron retired from AK Steel, Coshocton, where he was Director of Technology. Ron served as the past president of Coshocton Town and Country Club, spent 6 years as the Secretary on the Pomerene Center for the Arts Board, was Treasurer of the Coshocton County Bi-Centennial Committee, as well as Treasurer for the recent EMS Levy.

After retiring, Ron became volunteer grounds keeper at the Pomerene Center, along with wife Pat. Ron enjoyed Michigan football as a season ticket holder and never missed a home Wolverine football game. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Ron is survived by son, Jeffrey (Heather) Bowen of Ypsilanti, MI; daughter, Cynthia (David Jr.) Lauvray of Temecula, CA; grandchildren, Alexander Lauvray, Andrew Lauvray, and Morgan Lauvray; and sister, Nita Murphy of Berkeley, CA.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Given-Dawson Funeral Home with Rev. Jan Coffman officiating. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 pm, and one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron's memory to the Pomerene Center for the Arts, 317 Mulberry St., Coshocton, OH 43812.
