David Kenneth Hughes, Sr. of Montgomery, Texas went to be with the Lord on April 19th, 2013. Dave was born in Houston, Texas on February 15th, 1924. He was the second of three sons born to JR and Ethel Hughes and the fourth child of five children. He was born and raised in the Heights and attended Reagan High School.
Dave served proudly and fought bravely for this country in the Navy during WWII and was on the USS North Hampton during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was the last surviving Pearl Harbor veteran in Montgomery County.
Dave is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hughes of Montgomery Texas; a son, Dave Hughes, Jr. of Spring, Texas, and his wife, Lisa; a daughter, Ethel Oliver of Montgomery, Texas, and her husband, RD; grandson Jason Hughes, Sr. and his wife, Danielle; great grandsons, Jason David, Jr. and Pierce Kenneth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dave delivered cookies to students in the Montgomery schools for years and was known as "The Cookie Man" by them. He is still remembered fondly by those children that he enjoyed so much.
Visitation will be held at Sam Houston Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas on Sunday, April 21st from 5:00 to 8:00 in the evening. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, April 22nd at 10:00 am in the Chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, 13402 Eastex Fwy., Houston, Tx. 77039 at 2:30 in the afternoon. You are invited to leave a written condolence on our website at www.shmfh.com.
