Freida Swonke Lake, 85, of Conroe, formerly of Navasota, died Saturday evening, September 7, 2013, at Conroe Regional Medical Center.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church (smsj.org), 8227 CR 205 at FM 1774 in Plantersville, with a parish rosary and vigil service to follow at 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Philip A. Wilhite, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Conroe as the celebrant. The rite of interment will follow in St. Mary's Church Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home of Navasota.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan and Kyle Osborn, Travis Wilson, Matthew and Daniel McClinton, Rayburn Osborn and Jeff Wilson.
Freida was born May 4, 1928 in Plantersville to John and Julia Kowis Swonke. She married Charles "Charlie" Travis Lake of April 25, 1950. They lived in Friendswood for a number of years and in 1986 they moved to White Hall and later, built their dream home in Navasota. Freida loved to garden, both with flowers and vegetables and was an excellent cook. Charlie and Freida loved to dance to the "big band" music and she continued to enjoy listening to it. She was a former member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville, and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe. While in Navasota they both were involved and did volunteer work with numerous organizations such as, AARP, the Red Cross Blood Drive, Navasota VFW Post 4006, the Noon Lions Club and Grimes-St. Joseph Regional Health Center. After Charlie's death, Freida moved to Conroe where she lived at Carriage House. She remained active in the different social events at Carriage House and was on the "Wi" Bowling League there.
Preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charlie, Freida was also preceded in death by brothers, Phillip, Edmond, Herbert, Bennie and Aaron Swonke and sister, Frances McClure.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Ann Osborn and husband, Rayburn, of Pearland, Lisa Elaine McClinton, and Carol Lynn Wilson and husband, Jeff, all of Montgomery; sisters, Florine Hock of Plantersville and Dolly Drodz of Hockley; a brother, Leon Swonke of Spring Branch, TX; grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew and Daniel McClinton, Ryan and Kyle Osborn and Travis Wilson, along with numerous relatives and a great number of friends.
