Gary Douglas Sapp, 66, passed peacefully into the waiting arms of the Lord on December 18, after bravely fighting a recent illness. He was born October 6, 1946 to Douglas and Bobbie Jean Sapp in Conroe, Texas. He grew up in Montgomery County, attending public school in Conroe and later was a student in the Texas State Schools for the disabled. Much of his adult life was spent in Brenham living in a compassionate group home. Endowed with a determined spirit and wonderful passionate nature, Gary was blessed with loving and dedicated parents who nurtured him to enjoy a vibrant, zestful life. Whether competing in Special Olympics, patrolling on neighborhood watch in his signature golf cart or raising America's colors in the front yard, no one approached their pursuits with more enthusiasm than Gary. He never met a stranger and loved to engage anyone about those things to which he was truly devoted: God, family, country, our military and first-responders, John Wayne, Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger and all things red, white and blue. With an only child, his parents expressed their reasoning for never having more children; they already possessed a child whom God had made perfectly for them. Others who have Down syndrome children certainly understand the way Gary touched the lives of those blessed to know him. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Sapp. He is survived by his devoted mother, Bobbie Jean Sapp and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who all will miss him greatly. The family wishes to thank Gary's caregivers, the mental health workers and volunteers of our state, and the other health care professionals that ministered to Gary through his life and illness. Visitation with the family will be held at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe on Thursday, December 20th from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral services will follow on Friday, December 21st at 10am at Cashner Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.
