Robert A. O'Rorke, age 75, passed away on June 20, 2013, at home in Conroe, Texas, from heart failure. Bob was born in Meridian, Mississippi, and grew up in Fresno, California. He attended Fresno State for three years but could not resist the call to fly. He joined the Naval Cadet program and was soon on his way to flight training in Florida. He was proudest of his career in the Navy. Bob's first cruise was on the USS Lexington and the second was on the USS Constellation. His squadron, VAW 11, was an early warning squadron and protected the aircraft carrier he was on. He also flew ground coverage for the troops in Vietnam and provided coverage in the South China Sea during the beginning years of the Vietnam War. After serving in the Navy, he flew as a commercial pilot and retired in River Plantation.
For leisure time, nothing was more enjoyable than to be fishing in a lake or traveling with their travel trailer. After he was no longer able to play golf he took up gardening. His family and grandchildren were always a great enjoyment. He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Jean (Gregory) O'Rorke; daughter, Erin Kinney; son, Greg O'Rorke; grandchildren, Megan and Collin Kinney; sister-in-law, Gail Johnson; aunt, Eileen Soule; cousin, George Soule and brother John O'Rorke.
