Cherry, Sr., Charles Leon, 81, of Mays Landing, passed away on Christmas Eve with his family by his side. He was born February 13, 1932 in Florence, NJ.
He was the cherished husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Fulginiti) Cherry for 56 years. He was the wonderful father of his children who were the joy of his life: John (Denise) Cherry of Portland, OR, Judith (Dennis) Pistilli of Deptford, Charles Leon Cherry, Jr., of Atco, and Lisa (James) Killmeyer, Sr. of Egg Harbor Twp.; the happy and loving grandfather of: Joseph (Ashley) Pistilli) of Voorhees, Michael Pistilli of Deptford, Evan and Lura Cherry of Atco, and Elizabeth and Kathryn Killmeyer of Egg Harbor Twp; and step-grandfather of Anthony (Dina) Pistilli and Kaylee and Anthony, Jr. of Deptford, and James Killmeyer, Jr. of Egg Harbor Twp..
Charlie Cherry graduated from Palmyra High School in 1950 and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer from 1952-1954. He graduated from Temple University Engineering in 1960. He was a Cub Scout Master of Pack #182 of Magnolia, NJ from 1966 to 1969 and Assistant Scout Master from 1969 to 1973. He was a Volunteer Ambulance Squad Corp. Engineer of Voorhees, NJ for 10 years from 1973 to 1983. He received Member of the Year award in 1983. He also was a former member of the Atlantic County Skyblazer Radio Control Airplane Flying Club from 2003 to 2011 and a member of the AMA, Academy of Model Aeronautics from 2003 until 2011.
Charles loved classical music and playing the piano. He retired from Stone & Webster Engineering Company in Cherry Hill, NJ.
He was also an avid clockmaker and said "that he never met a clock he couldn't fix."
A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 29, 10-11 AM, at the Church of St. Katharine Drexel, 6075 West Jersey Ave., Egg Harbor Twp., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing.
