AGE: 95 • Merchantville

Florence C. Scranton, 95, of Merchantville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2014, with her family by her side, at The Terraces Assisted Living in Sewell. She was born in Moorestown to the late Patrick and Bridget Carey. After graduating from Trenton State College, Florence joined The American Red Cross, during WWII. It was there that she met the love of her life, Captain Walter A. Scranton Jr., a recipient of two purple hearts. They married in 1946 and she was later promoted to second in command at the American Red Cross. She was a dedicated teacher in Merchantville for many years and a volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for 25 years, as well as a volunteer for the Veteran's Affairs.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Walter A. Scranton Jr. in 1981; children Bridget, Barbara and Patrick Scranton; brothers John and Patrick Carey and sister Alice McLaughlin. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy, her children W. Carey Scranton (Judi) of Monroe, NC, John R. Scranton (Sally) of Watermill, NY, Mary Ellen McGaley (Frank) of Pitman, Thomas M. Scranton (Rennie) of Las Vegas, NV, and Timothy P. Scranton (Lisa) of Delran; grandchildren Danny, Katie, Mike, Kellie, Alex and Jennifer; 7 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 from 9-9:30AM at Inglesby & Sons Funeral Home, 2426 Cove Road, Pennsauken NJ 08109, followed by a 10:30AM Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorestown. Florence will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Walt, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Moorestown.
