Matina (Stella) Scarmoutsos Chigounis was born and raised in Corning, NY.
Matina was a bright light, compassionate and loving to her family, loved ones, friends and all who she met - no matter how briefly.
She spent many happy days working with her father, her sister, Katherine and her brother, Manuel in the family's sweet shop, The Crystal Palace.
Inspired and encouraged by her art teacher, Miss Klute at the Corning Free Academy she was given the opportunity to design images as a Studio Artist at Steuben Glass in Corning.
Matina went on to attend the University of Michigan during World War II and later graduated from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts after raising her family.
She married Terry Chigounis in 1948 in Philadelphia, PA. Together they lived in Pennsauken, NJ where they raised their 4 children.
Matina is survived by her sister, Katherine; her children, Fotene, Tony (Karen), Eve (deceased) and Peter; her grandchildren, Aleco, Drew (Kate), Barbra, Luca and Chloe; and her 2 great grand daughters, Isabelle and Abigail.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services Thursday 12 PM at 12 PM at The St Thomas Greek Orthodox Church on Mercer Street, Cherry Hill, NJ where a viewing will be held 10 - 12 noon.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Scholarship Fund, 128 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
