AGE: 88 • Atlanta, GA
Victor Mattei passed away peacefully on December 27, 2013 in Atlanta, GA, surrounded by his family. Born October 18, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Victor was 88 years old. Vic valued his faith, family and education. He worked throughout high school so he could afford to attend a parochial school near his home and proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Following the war, he returned home and walked 5 miles each way to university to earn his undergraduate and graduate degrees on the GI Bill.
He had a career of 40 years as a research chemist at Rohm and Haas in Spring House, PA, where he earned multiple patents. Vic was a resident of Cinnaminson, NJ and active member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish for 47 years. Vic will be remembered for the deep and unquestioning love he had for his wife, Marita, and for his family. Guided by his faith, he taught his children and grandchildren to be happy with who they are and to not judge those around them. Vic fostered a love of learning, questioning and growing throughout his life. His children are grateful for the way he reminded them as they grew up that 'It's not a mistake if you learn something from it.'
Beloved husband of Marita (née Barnes) for nearly 50 years. Devoted father of Edamarie Mattei (Kris Colby), Tory (Victor Jr.) Mattei (Christine) and Nanette Mattei. Loving Grandfather of Kiernan, Tolly, Desmond, Christian, Lindsey and Andrew, and brother and brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
We welcome family and friends to celebrate Vic's life at his viewing on January 3 from 6-7:30 PM at Snover/Givnish (1200 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077), or January 4th from 8:45-10:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church (Branch Pike & Pomona Road, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077).
