Albert Preston Hawes answered the Lord's call Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 2:40 p.m. at Braun's Nursing Home.
Albert Preston Hawes was born in Lewisport, Ky. on March 28, 1926 to the late Lewis and Minnie Landers-Hawes. This union was blessed with four more children, Harry Jones, Samuel Hawes, sister Eloise Hawes Woods and Brother George Hawes who all preceded him in death.
Albert gave his life to Christ at an early age at the Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church in Lewisport. Albert moved to Evansville and was a longtime faithful member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the Deacons Board, Board of Trustees for many years and sang in the Spiritual Chorus and the Male Chorus. He had a beautiful tenor voice and continued to sing spirituals until his demise.
We will miss that Albert was fun loving and full of laughter among family and friends, and he loved to play his organ. Albert retired from the Bendix Westinghouse and the United State Postal Service after many years of service and was a United States Air force Veteran.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Fykes-Hawes; and granddaughter, Stephanie Bussey
Albert leaves to cherish his memory, his lovely daughter Harriett Teamer ( George) of Pontiac MI; grandchildren, Tamira Bussey, Delania McCullum, Baraka Teamer, Gregory Dyson, Pontiac MI, LaTanya Lloyd Warren MI; nine great grandchildren; nieces, Artamease Nancy Grimes, MaLynda Madzel(Richard), Jaquilla Mae Crowe(Wayne) and Amaree Miller (Bill); two loving sister in laws, Christell Fykes and Emma Fykes. Special nieces and nephew caregivers, Zelma Hall, Christine (Larry) Childers and nephew Larry (Johnnie) Fykes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Wednesday at St James Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation is 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time at the church. Pastor Connie Baltzell is officiating nad entombment is at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Osborne Funeral Home is entrusted with final care.
