Clarence White Obituary
Clarence A. White
Evansville, Ind.
Clarence A. White of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013. He was just several months away from 102.
Born in Robinson, Illinois on June 9, 1912, Clarence was a school teacher in a one room schoolhouse teaching grades 1-8. After 8 years teaching, he changed careers becoming a Meteorologist with the U.S. Weather Bureau. In 1944, during World War II, the military asked the Weather Bureau for volunteers to take weather observations on Coasts Guard cutters in the Atlantic Ocean. Clarence spent some time assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Manhasset making weather observations which were used by aircraft flying across the Atlantic. Returning to the Weather Bureau from the Coast Guard, he was stationed at Madison, Wisconsin for a couple years before transferring to Evansville from where he retired with 33 years of service. Clarence graduated from Robinson High School, IL; attended Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, IL; and took summer classes at the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. He truly believed in living life to the fullest and in learning something new every day.
The greatest joy in Clarence's life was his lovely wife and family. He loved fishing, crossword puzzles, and, in his younger years, writing Letters to the Editor.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 78 years, Velma; a daughter, Joan Evans; three sons, Bob (Sharon), Phil (Anne), David (Sandi); 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great -great grandchildren.
Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, Annie L. (Adams) and Alonzo F. White; a sister, Ruth Holmes; brothers, William A. and Carrol G. White and his son-in-law, James A. Evans.
