Newburgh, Ind.
E. Ray Shelton, 83, of Newburgh, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at West River Health Campus.
Ray was born July 8, 1929, in Evansville, the son of Elmer Ray Sr. and Pauline (Quirey) Shelton and was a 1947 graduate of Central High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. Ray was a 33-year member of First Christian Church and currently a member of American Baptist East Church. He retired in 1991 from Lensing Wholesale, Inc. after 44 years in sales. Ray and his wife, Marlene were snowbirds and spent October through May in Leesburg, Florida for many years. Ray loved motorcycling and planned many trips with his wife and friends. He was member and an officer of Kentucky Travelers Motorcycle Club and an organizer for Southern Indiana Motorcyclist Association in Evansville.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marlene (Grubb) Shelton, of Newburgh; sister, Jean Kerney, of Evansville, (her husband, James Kerney passed away in April 2010); and two nephews, Mark Kerney (Anne), of Winchester, Ind., and Keith Kerney (Melanie), of Wadesville, Ind.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Karl Sash and staff for their care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at American Baptist East Church, 6300 Washington Ave., Evansville, with Pastor Jeff Stratton and Pastor Peck Axton officiating.
Graveside committal will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Montgomery Cemetery, Oakland City, Ind.
Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville.
Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
