Gerald G. 'Gerry' Fuchs Sr.
Evansville, Ind.
Gerald G. "Gerry" Fuchs, Sr., 85, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Friday, August 16, 2013, at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
A native of Evansville, Ind., Gerry graduated in 1946 from Memorial High School and was on the 1944 winning boxing team of Memorial Bengal Bouts. He attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio for two years and graduated from the University of Evansville in 1950. Gerry was a 1953 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law; Bloomington, Ind., and was initiated into the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity in 1951. Gerry served in the United States Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict. He was the Legal Clerk at Camp Haugen in Japan where he received a commendation ribbon for his exceptional service in a position of great responsibility. After return from service Gerry began practicing law in the law office of John Jennings prior to opening his own firm. A very accomplished trial lawyer, Gerry spent his entire life practicing law in Evansville, Ind. He was a member of the Evansville Bar Association and the Indiana Bar Association and was recognized by the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association in 1975. Gerry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially traveling with his children around the United States. In later years he traveled extensively around the world including Greece, Budapest, Austria.
He was a member of Central Turners, Riverbend Association, Owls, Chiado's Round Table, and The Tip-Off Club and Football 100 Club Member of Evansville Aces. His hobbies included raising plants and flowers in his greenhouse, collecting and refinishing antiques, following IU Basketball and Football and the New York Yankees. He dearly loved animals of all kinds, horses, ponies, dogs and of course his dog, Sarge.
Gerry is survived by his son, Gerald G. (Brenda) Fuchs Jr., of Evansville, Ind.; stepson, Kevin Bryant, of Evansville, Ind.; brother, Thomas (Jenny) Fuchs, Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Katie Lamb, Michelle Koester, Krystal Koester, Lindsay Porter, Aaron Slaton, Kourtney Mattingly and Erik Bryant; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Koester, Madison Koester, Nate Lamb, Ethan Slaton, Sophia Slaton, McKala Slaton and A.J. Slaton and many nieces and nephews.
Gerry is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Sue (Woods) Fuchs; daughter, Julie Marie Slaton; son-in-law, Doyle Slaton; daughter-in-law, Lori Bryant; his parents, Amelia (Folz) and Germain "Gerry" Godfrey Fuchs; sisters, Amelia Ann Specht, Betty Marie Blume; and a brother, Robert Fuchs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711. Entombment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may visit from 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013, and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Browning Funeral Home.
