Harlan J. Altman, 84 of Ferdinand passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at his home in Ferdinand. Harlan was born January 22, 1930 in Ferdinand, IN. to Cornelius and Henrietta (Leinenbach) Altman. He married Alba E. Meneghel on August 10, 1957 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Harlan retired from the Dubois County Bank, Ferdinand Branch as Manager and Assistant Vice-President. He was a board member of Marion Heights Academy for 25 years. He was a member of Huntingburg V.F.W., Huntingburg Conservation Club, Dubois County Museum and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 where he once served as Commander. Harlan enjoyed coin collecting, playing cards, traveling and spending time with nieces and nephews. He visited all 50 states and over 25 foreign countries. Harlan is survived by his wife, Alba E. Altman; two brothers, Francis Altman, Thomas Altman and his wife Anna Rose all of Ferdinand. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Harlan was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorita Kleeman and Romona Morgan. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM EST Monday January 27th in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Military services will be be conducted by Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. Friends may call from 2-8:00 PM EST Sunday & 7-10:00 AM EST Monday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
