Harold Thomas Schnur, 87, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Harold was born in Cypress, Indiana, on January 12, 1926, to the late George and Alice (Heuke) Schnur. Harold graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1943, and served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. After the war, he worked on the family farm in Warrick County for several years then went on to work at Oak Hill Pharmacy where he retired in 1994. Harold loved to garden, play cards and especially attend the activities of his grandchildren. He was a charter member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church where he enjoyed giving of himself in service. Along with his wife Margaret, he received the Brute' Award. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Mary (Schultheis) Schnur; daughters, Carol (Dean) Kahre, of Evansville, Marilyn (Bill) Martin, of Columbus, Ind., Mary (Tim) Sullivan, of Gilbert, Ariz., and Diane (Rick) Hayden, of Evansville; sons, Father Ed Schnur of St. Wendel, Ind., and John (Carol) Schnur, of Newburgh, Ind.; sisters, Sister Mary Alice Schnur, OSB and Therese (Dan) Thomas; grandchildren, Daniel (Julie), Aaron (Laura) and Nicholas Schnur, Sarah, David and Elizabeth Martin, Rebecca (Ryan) Bellmore, Jennifer, Daniel and Michael Sullivan and Emily and Lauren Hayden; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Madelyn and Amelia Schnur.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sister Maura Schnur, OSB; brothers, Edward, Jim, Bill and Joe Schnur; and by his grandson, Joseph Kahre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Rd., Evansville, IN, 47715, with Father Zach Etienne presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 E. Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN, where a rosary/memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also visit from 9 a.m. until Mass time at the church on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Benedict, 802 E. 10th St., Ferdinand, IN 47532, to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or to the in Harold's honor.
