Harold William Vaughn
Harold William Vaughn, 91, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Deaconess Hospital.
Harold was born in Clay, Kentucky on August 11, 1922, to the late John William and Bertha (Vandiver) Vaughn. Harold served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a Certified Master Mechanic at Kenny Kent Chevrolet for 36 years. After retirement, Harold worked at Hocker Brake Company for five years. He was a volunteer firefighter and had served as the Fire Chief for Perry Township. Harold was also a West-Side Precinct Committee Member and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1114, the American Legion Funkhouser Post and the Riverbend Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, remodeling houses and following NASCAR.
Harold is survived by the mother of his children and lifelong friend, E. Kathryn Vaughn, of Henderson, KY; daughters, Karen (Daniel) Dorris, of Evansville, IN, Anita Moore, of Henderson, KY, Kerry Vaughn, of Old Hickory, TN; sons, William Gary Vaughn, of Henderson, KY, Wendell (Laura) Vaughn, of Reed, KY, Thomas "Tommy" Vaughn, of Henderson, KY, Mike (Carrie) Chumley, of Clearwater, FL, James Chumley Jr., of Evansville, IN, Earl (Janet) Chumley, of Evansville, IN, whom Harold was living with; special nephews, Robert Collins, Kenneth Vaughn; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; ex-wife, Edna Shay, of Goodlettsville, TN.
Harold was preceded in death by a son, Keith Vaughn; a daughter, Debra Vaughn; his parents; siblings, Alice Collins, Frances Nelson, Geraldine Vaughn, Geweldine Vaughn, Jessie Eugene Vaughn; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 E. Diamond Avenue, Evansville, IN 47711, with Rev. Steve Clayton officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit from 2 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Browning Funeral Home and again from noon until service time on Wednesday.
