Hobart Lutz, 91, of Evansville, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Hobart was born February 24, 1922, in Evansville the son of Dock and Janie (Hedge) Lutz. He received his degree in finance from Evansville College and was a member of the debate team. Hobart earned his teachers' certificate from Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tenn., and did his MBA work at Murray State University, Murray, Ky. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was the first WWII Army veteran elected to head Anservice Organization. Hobart was a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was in the insurance and construction business in Evansville and Hopkinsville, Ky., for 20 years and also taught school for 15 years in Hopkinsville. Hobart was a member of Jaycees where he served on the Refrigerator Bowl Committee, Plug Horse Derby Committee and Turtle Derby. He married Mary Helen Denton on May 10, 1945, and spent 61 years together until her death in 2005. Hobart was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Evansville and Hopkinsville, Ky., and currently a member of American Baptist East Church in Evansville. He also taught Sunday School for over 50 years.
He is survived by daughter, Marilyn Tyson Rager (Vern), of Evansville; grandchildren, Chris Tyson Renshaw (Josh), of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Ryan Clark (Chris), of Cincinnati, Ohio; five great-granddaughters and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Krohn; wife, Mary Helen; and daughter, Bonnie Clark; and son-in-law, Keith Tyson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Reverend Peck Axton and Jay Stockman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Hopkinsville, Ky.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
