Jack Newman, 76, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Evansville, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013, at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis.
Jack was born August 9, 1937, the son of Milton S. and Rosella G. (Greenberg) Newman. He attended Bosse High School and graduated in the class of 1955. After high school, Jack started a long career in broadcast television. He worked at all three Evansville TV stations while learning his craft. Jack worked his way up through the ranks of cameraman, director, production manager, program director and operations manager. He left Evansville and became very successful in the broadcast industry. He worked for National Tele-productions in Indianapolis, who were one of the first companies to have a remote truck to produce sporting events for Network Television including NFL games, NBA games and a live show on the ABC Network for college sports. Watching Jack in action was like watching a great coach direct a winning team effort. Long before game day he did his homework, going over the play book (script) to make certain details fall into place, and preparing a game plan so everything runs like clockwork. While working for NTP, he also produced and directed shows with Hank Williams Jr. and Johnny Cash.
Eventually, he left broadcasting to focus on the producing and directing of full-service film and video productions in Chicago. An impressive list of clients included McDonald's, Kraft, Hallmark, General Motors, United Airlines and Coke.
He is survived by son, Craig Newman,of VA; brother, Stanley "Stan" Newman (Sandy), of Evansville; grandchildren, Melissa and Thomas Weston, of VT; nieces and nephews, Kim Lieberman (Steve), John Newman, Don Newman (Jennifer), Marc Newman (Katie), Mikel Newman, Max Newman (Rebecca), and Mindy Rosenberg (Daniel); cousins, Sam Greenberg (Shelby) and Phil Greenberg; and stepsons, Steve and Mike Ponsler
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Penny Lynn Weston; and brother, Barry Newman.
Jack's family would like to extend their thanks to his ex-wife and best friend, Shirley Newman for being a loving caregiver.
