Jack Schriefer, 82 of Lamar died Sunday June 23,2013. He was born June 12,1931 in Lamar to Delbert & Bethel (Ferguson) Schriefer. He married Mary Anne Fitzgerald on August 26,1973, and she preceded him in death on July 5,2011. Jack was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church in Santa Claus where he taught Sunday school and bible study for many years. He was a Army veteran of the Korean War. Jack was very involved in Rural Youth. He earned his degree in agronomy from Purdue University. He was a lifelong member of Gideons International. Jack was a lifelong farmer and worked many years for the Soil Conservation Service in Gibson, Spencer, & Vanderburgh Counties. He later served as a Postal carrier in Gentryville, Holland, and Otwell for over 20 years. Jack also served on the Spencer County Council on Aging. His passion was working the land, and did so throughout his retirement. Surviving are a daughter, Gretchen Easterday and her husband Seth of Evansville, a son, Harold Schriefer and wife Lisa of Lamar. 3 grandchildren, Elijah, Jack, and Ruthie Easterday. One sister, Sharon Price of Newburgh. Friends may call from 4 to 8:00 PM CDT Tuesday and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM CDT Wednesday at Santa Claus Methodist Church, Santa Claus. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM in the church. Burial will follow in Clay City Cemetery, near Lamar. Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand is in charge of arrangements.
