Evansville, Ind.
Jesse W. DeMoss, 87, of Evansville, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, November 28, 2013, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Jesse was born February 7, 1926, in Vandetta, Ky., the son of Jesse S. and Flora S. (Tapp) DeMoss. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Italy during WWII where he was a member of the 10th Mountain Division. Jesse was a 20 plus year elder and member of Good Shepherd Assembly of God Church, where he served and volunteered freely and generously. Jesse helped in the building of Good Shepherd Assembly of God Church. He was devoted to hospital visitations, Men's Ministries and led many people to Jesus. He was a previous member of Calvary Temple Church where he was a Deacon for over 20 years and taught Sunday School. Jesse was a supporter of Chi Alpha Campus Ministry and Grace House Ministry. He retired from Inland Container after 35 years of service. Jesse was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved tinkering with cars and was an ace mechanic. Above all Jesse was a devoted husband, dad and "Poppy" who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Eleanor "Maxine" (Coffman) DeMoss, of Evansville; daughters, Marsha Hawes (Andy), of Newburgh, Ind., and Reverend Beverly Freund (Rick), Linda Salyer (Lewis) and Kimberly Corn (Robert), all of Evansville; grandchildren, Jenny Matarrese (Scott), Beth Hawes, Amee Lancaster, Leigh Ann Coats, Joel Freund (Cathy), David Salyer (Emma), Benjamin Salyer, Heather Ntewo (Ubong) and Ashley Corn; great-grandchildren, Makayla Hawes, Madison Bradshaw, Rileigh Lancaster, Grant Lancaster, Avery Coats, Isaiah Coats, Ima Ntewo, Emek Ntewo and Mmekan Ntewo; and 32 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrtle Hill and Betty Ruth DeMoss; and brothers, Marvin, Charles, Hugh, William and Bernice DeMoss.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Anthony Stephens and the 5th Floor Tower A Staff at Deaconess Gateway Hospital who went over and above in caring for our dad. Words cannot express our thankfulness for their compassion and Love. We would also like to thank his primary care physician's nurse, Tammy, for her years of care.
Funeral Services will be held at noon, Monday, December 2, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Pastor Glyn Pfohl officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Hopkins, Ky.
Friends may call from 2 until 7 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel and again from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon, Monday.
