Lloyd Everette Townsend, 83, of Newark, Del., passed away at St Francis Hospice on July 30, 2013.
Lloyd was born in Evansville March 15, 1930, son of Callie Thelma Ledgerwood and Clifford Gerald Townsend. A Korean War Veteran, he served as a member of the 6147th Tactical Control Group (Mosquito). A graduate of Auburn University in Alabama, he went on to have a 35-year career as an electrical engineer at DuPont and enjoyed a long retirement.
Lloyd spent many years helping with the PTA groups and attending the many events his children and grandchildren participated in. He loved coaching softball. Lloyd could always be counted on to help us find solutions to our problems and willingly shared his knowledge and wisdom with all of us.
Lloyd leaves behind his son, Lloyd Jr. and wife, Kita Mappin, of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Laura and husband, Jaime Garmendia, of Red Lion, Pa., daughter, Melanie Milburn, of Newark, Del.; and son, Matthew and wife, Rebecca, of Townsend, Del. His 17 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter also survive him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen; his parents; and siblings, Berta, Shirley, Bea, Sonny, Ralph and Charlie.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main St., Newark, Del., from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a memorial service in celebration of Lloyd's life at 3 p.m. with a small reception afterward. A ceremony will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday September 16, 2013, promptly at 10 a.m. Lloyd and Helen Parrish Townsend will be interred together.
