Marcia (Hahn) Volkman
The Guest Book is expired.
Marcia (Hahn) Volkman, 68, passed from this life on surrounded by her loving family, to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 12, 2013.
Born in Evansville, Ind., the daughter of Helen (Stocker) Hahn and Lloyd Hahn, Marcia graduated from Reitz High School in 1963, where she was class president all four years. She graduated from Indiana University in three years, with honors and degrees in both Physical Education and Parks and Recreation. While at IU, Marcia was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Marcia continued with a Masters degree from the University of Evansville.
At the age of 22, Marcia was named the director of the Community Center in Evansville. She was very involved in the Junior League of Evansville and helped to organize, implement and initiate the construction of the ice skating facility for the city of Evansville. She taught at Indiana State University of Evansville, now USI. She then managed bookkeeping and worked with her husband at their company Mike Volkman Insurance, Inc., for 30 years. Marcia was a great tennis player and loved gardening after watching her parents take care of azaleas, hollies and rhododendron for years.
Active with Christian Fellowship Church for 35 years, and most recently with Family Bible Church, Marcia maintained a deep faith. She was a humble lady who always put others first. Her faith and her spirit enriched the lives of everyone she encountered and she was a good friend. She was instrumental in leading each of her children in a personal relationship with Christ and her favorite moments were spent with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Marcia is survived by her husband of 44 years, Mike Volkman; her children, Matt (Julie) Volkman, Megan (Joe) Danks, and Michael Volkman; grandchildren Austin, Addison and Ansley Volkman and Faith and Ashley Danks, all of Evansville, Ind.; her siblings, Marilyn (George) Schenetzke, of Indianapolis, Ind., Janet (Dan) Fuquay, of Evansville, Ind., and Mark (Linda) Hahn, of Ladera Ranch, Calif.
Throughout her lifetime, Marcia believed that actions speak louder than words and lived out 1 Peter 3:4, letting her "adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious."
There will be a celebration of life for Marcia at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, Ind., with Pastors Colin Kerr and David Niednagel officiating.
