Marvin Carl Buente Sr., 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Marvin was born in Evansville, Indiana on July 14, 1925 to the late William and Emma (Hirsch) Buente. He attended Reitz High School and was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Marvin became an airplane/blimp mechanic and was in the "Lighter than Air Patrol" where he patrolled the west coast for enemy submarines. During this time he gained a lifelong love of dancing. While attending naval mechanic school in Chicago, he filled his nights with dance classes. After military service, Marvin married Mary (Hamby) Cheshire and began his family. He will be remembered by many for his endless energy and style of dance.
Marvin had many successful years in sales and eventually started "Marvin Buente Auto Sales" on West Franklin Street. After selling his business he became manager of Evansville's first Toyota Car Dealership. Following retirement, Marvin enjoyed driving a school bus for Evansville Day School, traveling, walking and exercising.
Marvin is survived by his children, Marvin Buente II (Pat), Roger Buente (Peggy) and Brenda Webb (Robert); grandchildren, Jarod Buente and Rene Hulsey; step-grandchildren, Cassie Nosko and Brad Haller and by 6 great grandchildren.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bruce Buente; and by his sisters, Eileen Schneider and Ruby Kohlmeyer.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Salem Church of Darmstadt Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Following the graveside service, family and friends will gather at the Hornet's Nest Restaurant, 11845 Petersburg Rd., Evansville, IN 47725.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital for the excellent care and compassion and to Joy and the staff at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
