Marvin L. Phillips, 82, of Evansville, passed away at 4:32 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Marvin was born July 10, 1931 in Newburgh, Ind., the son of the late Arthur and Connie (Conder) Phillips, and was a 1949 graduate of Bosse High School. He was a charter member of Terrace Parke General Baptist Church. Marvin was a four-year veteran of the United States Air Force serving for two years in Alaska during the Korean Conflict as a fire inspector. He owned and operated Marvin Phillips Insurance Agency, retiring in 1992, and selling his agency to Schultheis Insurance. Marvin was a master builder who built beautiful furniture and keepsakes for his entire family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jo Ann (Glenn) Phillips, of Evansville; daughter, Karen Weccele (Harry), of Evansville; son, Kent Phillips (Libby), of Dacula, Ga.; grandchildren, Brooke Ritterbush, Lauren Kapple, Jessica Polson and Devin Weccele; great-grandchildren, Josiah and Elisabeth Kappel, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur Phillips; and sisters, Mary Bandy and Alvina DeWig.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Pastor Jeff Harford officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel and again from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday.
