Mary Patricia Hatley, 62, of Evansville, Indiana, was a vibrant and loving person who passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013, in Cadiz, Kentucky.
Mary Pat was born March 8, 1951, in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was the daughter of William Harry and Lorene (Morris) Wallis. Mary Pat had a picturesque life. She grew up in a small town and married her childhood sweetheart, Mike Hatley. She graduated in 1969, from Rockport Texas High School and later graduated from Texas Tech University where she majored in Social Sciences. In Denison, Texas, Mary Pat taught school and she and Mike started their family. In 1984, the family moved to Cameron Park, California. With family first, Mary Pat raised her children and continued her teaching career at Ponderosa High School, where she taught a class in peer counseling. It was evident that she was a popular teacher as the line formed outside her door with students wanting to talk to her. Her caring and supportive nature was able to shine at Ponderosa High where the students and teachers were endeared to Mary Pat. It was at this school that she had the honor of passing out diplomas at graduation to her son, Ben. In 2001, they moved to Evansville, Indiana, and this has been home to the Hatley's ever since. Mary Pat continued her education at University of Southern Indiana and received her master's degree in social work. She began working at the Lampion Center as a therapist in 2006. Committed to her patients, Mary Pat worked on Monday, December 30, 2013.
Mary Pat's life centered around her family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and Nana. She enjoyed planning exciting trips for the family, golfing and travelling with her husband, Mike. She had the innate ability to make all those around her happy with her positive and outgoing personality.
