Paul Edward Smithhart, 74, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on June 29, 2013.
He was born to Paul W. and Mary M. Smithhart. Paul attended Reitz High School and then enlisted is the United Stated Marine Corp. He had worked for Ace of San Diego, California, Shetlers Moving and Storage and Atlas Van Lines for more than 42 years. Paul was a true west-sider and a proud family man. He enjoyed golf, motor cycle riding, boating on the Ohio River and being surrounded by family and friends. Paul was a proud AMVETS supporter, belonging to Post 84. He was also a member of the Travelers Protection Agency, Riverbend, Eagles and VFW.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul W. Smithhart and Mary M. Smithhart; and by his nephew, Ronnie Wayne Halbig.
Survivors include wife of 56 years, Peggy Smithhart; his children, Carol (John) Baker, of Colorado, Chris Smithhart, of Evansville, Judy (John) Medcalf, of Florida, Jeff Smithhart, of Evansville, and Terry (Yvonne) Smithhart, of Evansville; grandchildren, Amanda (James) Meuth, Justina (Brian) McDaniel, Ashley (Josh) Schaefer, Jennifoo Claspell, Jeffery England, Darby Baker, and Paul Steele Smithhart; great-grandchild, Aryanna (Little Bug) Barnes; siblings, Charlotte "Sissy" (Max) Schultz, Donald "Wink" (Mary Ann) Smithhart, Rick Smithhart, Gail Wood, Danny (Leonda White) Smithhart and Connie (Gordon) Grigsby; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Howell Baptist Church. Sunset Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Contributions may be made, in memory of Paul Smithhart, to the AMVETS Post 84.
