Fort Myers, Fla.
Robert Frank Smothers, 79, formerly of Evansvile, Ind. went to be with the Lord July 18, 2014 at the Hospice House in Fort Myers, Fla.
He was born in Aberdeen, SD January 2, 1935 to Roy and Hazel Smothers. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD in 1953 and from Coin Electrical School in Chicago in 1954. He then joined the U.S. Navy where he served his country during the Korean Conflict. Bob was employed with General Electric Company for 38 years, most recently in Evansville, Ind. as a sales engineer. Bob and his wife, Barbara, moved to Fort Myers, Fla. in 2003 as full-time residents. Bob loved to shoot sporting clay and to attend Bible Studies. He was a member of McGregor Baptist Church and the Joint Heirs Life Group.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara Sly Baxter Smothers; his daughter, Patricia Evans of Marysville, Ohio; step-children, Stacey (Neal) Schneider and Steven (Kathy) Baxter; grandchildren, Christy (Paul) Young, Jeffrey Evans, and Jennifer Evans; step-grandchildren, Jared (Dixxie) Schneider, Ben Schneider, Joel Schneider, Jordan Baxter, Jacob Baxter and Andrew Baxter; great-grandchildren, Olivia Young and Elijiah and Miriam Schneider; sisters, Helen Julson of Bismark, ND and Maryann (David ) Wilson of Florence, Ky. Bob's first wife, Maren Marie Smothers preceded him in death in 1986.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. July 21, 2014 at McGregor Baptist Church. No flowers please. Memorials may be sent to McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33966 or Hospice House, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
