Boonville, Ind.
Robert Harris Alexander, 86, of Boonville, went to heaven on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home. He was born September 14, 1926, in Boonville, Ind.,. to the late Ben and Hattie (Harris) Alexander. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nedra (Alexander) Welde.
Bob served our country with honor in the US Navy aboard the USS Bairoko during World War II. He ran his own bicycle repair shop during high school which included Whizzers. He worked at Sunlight Mine. He served with pride with the Indiana State Police. He was a part of the group that helped start up Alcoa Warrick Operations in 1957, and retired as Chief of Security in 1990. He was President of Yellow Banks Clay Corporation, served on the Warrick County Park Board, President of the Warrick County Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Main Street Baptist Church where he had served as a trustee and on the building committee. He was a member of Strangers Rest Lodge No. 240, Grand Lodge F & AM of Indiana, American Legion, Lions Club and life member of AASR Northern Masonic and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Valley of Evansville. Bob was an avid fan of IU basketball, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Jeff Gordan NASCAR racing. He enjoyed woodworking and made many things for friends and family out of his shop.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Flint) Alexander; sons, Robert Harris "Bobby" Alexander II, Greg and wife, Cinda Alexander, of Boonville, Brent and wife, Lisa Alexander, of Boonville; daughter, Jane Alexander, of Evansville; grandsons, Eric and wife, Shelly Alexander and Jeff Alexander; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Sarah Alexander; sister, Lloyd (Alexander) Fosse, of Marion, Ill.
Funeral Service 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel with Rev. Rodney Sloan and Rev. John Swain officiating.
Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville with military rites by the Warrick County Veteran Memorial Services.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, with a Masonic Memorial Service 7 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel.
